Avoriaz is a very large skiresort south of Lake Geneve. The area lies on the border of Switzerland and France, and the resort offers a lot of other smaller ski resorts like Chatel, Morzine, Les Gets, Champery, Champussin and Morgins.

All these towns are connected to eachother with lifts and slopes, witch make it possible to take a lot of long trips around the area. Avoriaz itself lies 1800 meters above sealevel and is build on a plateau in the mountains above Morzine. The building stile in Avoriaz is very uniqe and makes the entire town mix in with the montains and the nature.

Avoriaz is a carfree town where all transport is being done by foot, skii's
or sledges being pulled by horses.
Porte du Soleil, at 1000-2460 meters above
sea level, has the largest skiisystem in Europe. 650 km of pists on both sides of the Switzerland and France border and has 40 green, 100 blue, 115 red and 25 black pists. Every slope is connected with a liftsystem containing 220 lifts.

Around in the terrain you will find a lot of restaurants and crêperies (pancake bakeries) that is open as long as the lifts are active.
Cross-country skiers have 217 km. of preperated slopes to there disposal.
The liftsystem is being kept up to date and extended konstantly because of a uniqe teamwork between the towns. They are also in front teknologicly, for example has Avoriaz introduced a 6-man chair lift, and a electronic lift card so you don't have to take your card up of your pocket everytime you go on to a lift, it can read the card from inside your pocket. These opgrades helps preventing cues in the highseason.
